Penn State Behrend offers a diverse selection of injection molding machines used for both research and the development of processing engineers. One injection molding machine in particular offers the unique opportunity to run a two shot overmolded part with a rotating platen and second injection unit. A mold was to be designed to further the variety of molds while also taking advantage the full potential of our injection molding machines. The Society of Plastic Engineers desired a beverage coaster to be comprised of two separate materials. During the project, a two shot overmolded part and mold were designed in conjunction with professional engineers and mold designers.
