Serious incidents involving fires and/or explosions relating to ammonia are regularly reported in the industry. Moreover ammonia is assessed as being extremely dangerous for human health. Primary ammonia synthesis as well as ammonia refrigeration compressors are a high-risk area for ammonia leaks. Early and reliable detection of any ammonia leak is vital to significantly reduce the frequency of serious incidents.
