Condensation Correlations for Light Water Reactors

A considerable work is carried out by nuclear community in generating useful condensation correlations that can be used to assess reactor condensation heat transfer and in safety analysis. In this work, a comprehensive review of literature on condensation correlations that are applicable to light water reactor systems is presented. Direct contact condensation of steam in subcooled large pool, and in piping carrying co current and counter current flow of steam and subcooled water are examined. On surface film condensation the containment wall condensation, condensation in vertical and horizontal pipes are reviewed. The effect of non-condensable on the film condensation and direct condensation is examined. The condensation correlation are presented along with the correlations applicable ranges. The summary tables on condensation correlation are presented along with some recommendations on application and discussion on their limitations.
