SCOR: SIMPLE COMPACT REACTOR - AN INNOVATIVE MEDIUM-SIZED PWR

In order to meet the stated requirements for future electricity generating reactors: low power cost, safety, fuel cycle management, and the goals expressed in the European Utility Requirements (EUR), etc. we hereby present, as a prospective study, an innovative and advanced medium-sized pressurised water reactor design: SCOR (Simple Compact Reactor). This conceptual design was undertaken considering: the potential markets for medium-sized reactors; the interest to have compact nuclear steam supply system; the possible use of innovative fuels; the simplification of the safety demonstration by elimination of some accident conditions by designing; passive safety; the low power cost acting on all items: investment, operation and fuel. The final concept is a compact reactor with integrated pumps, pressuriser, and control rods. The single steam generator is located above the reactor vessel as the reactor closure head. The decay heat is passively removed by dedicated integrated heat exchangers.
