HEMIFACIAL MICROSOMIA - A CASE REPORT

Hemifacial microsomia is asymmetry of facial structures (bone and soft tissues). An adult patient with hemifacial microsomia was treated by classical ortognatic surgical procedures (Le Fort I osteotomy and autogenous bone grafting) and by modern surgical technology as distraction osteogenesis of mandible. After these bone procedures the remaining defect of bone and soft tissues was partially compensated by on-lay graft of bone substitute (Medpore mandible on-lay graft), but it was removed after more than one year because of inflammation. After that a custom made titanium angular implant (graft by titanium) was prepared on the basis of computer tomography (CT) scans, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing technologies.
