Compound deformation always occurs in a sheet metal forming process, especially for manufacturing car body parts. In the present work, a theoretical analysis on cylindrical cup drawing with a central pre-hole are investigated based on slab method. The theoretical maximum radial stress in both pure deep drawing and pure hole flanging are chosen as compared factor. Five deformation modes named, pure deep drawing, deep drawing dominated mode, drawing-flanging compound mode, flanging dominated mode and pure hole flanging are divided according to their maximum radial stresses. Moreover, the theoretical results are verified by cylindrical cup drawing experiments.
