The paper investigates the syntheses of MgO-SiC-C powder based on raw magnesite, light burnt MgO, silicon powder and graphite. The properties of MgO based refractories with synthetic MgO-SiC-C powder and comparison with traditional MgO-C sample are also shown in the paper. The thermal shock resistance of MgO based refractories with synthetic MgO-SiC-C powder is much better than traditional MgO-C sample, yet the porosity of the samples with synthetic powder are higher than the MgO-C sample.
