Ceramic open-cell foams are used for the filtration of metallic melts. Thermomechan-ical simulations of such structures are complex and therefor often simplified by using beam models. The present work shows detailed studies of the influence of geometrical properties on the effective thermal conductivity. For this purpose the simplified foam structure of the Kelvin cell with various geometry properties is used. The method to generate such structures is versatile and can also be used for other structures (e.g. close-cell foams). The results are compared with those of beam models and an analytical solution.
