Large Eddy Simulation of the Wind Flow Over Skyscrapers

In this work, a LES was held for the flow over the Petronas Twin Towers, the highest skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Petronas Twin Towers were the tallest buildings in 1998 - 2004, they are ranked world's sixth highest building but currently still holds highest twin towers. The building consists of two adjacent, clouds-reaching towers each measuring 60 m diameter and 451.9 m height. The free stream velocity was set to 16.2 km/h. The simulation revealed the structure of the flow over the building. It was found that two large couples of vortices were generated in the flow; the first in-between the two towers and the second, in the downstream. The results show that the internal couple of vortices are much stronger but of little turbulence intensities.
