The CB/OS-2 Block in the Cambay Basin is located offshore West India in the Gulf of Khambat. The block was awarded under a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) dated 30 June 1998, to a joint venture consisting of ONGC, Tata Petrodyne Ltd. & Cairn Energy India Pty Ltd. (CEIL), CEIL was designated as the operator. TheTarkeshwar & Babaguru Formations form the key reservoir intervals in the area. Exploration & appraisal drilling in the Lakshmi fields encountered HC sands in the lower part of the Tarkeshwar formation of lower Miocene age; as a result these reservoirs are the main targets for further development activities. The presence of commercial gas accumulations in the shallow Babaguru formation makes the seismic imaging poor at deeper section. Resultantly it was difficult even to undertake basic horizon interpretation within the specified development zone of interest. Due to this masking of energy, it was crucial to delineate the lithology to map the stratigraphic reservoirs in the zone of interest.
