Analysis of Advanced Solution for Unscreened Cables for High Data Rate Digital Communications

As a solution for achieving Alien Crosstalk requirements for unscreened data cables a design using a discontinuous metallised tape in combination with a semi-conductive layer a flexible cable design is presented. Numerical calculations as well as measurements of the high frequency parameters are shown and analysed with respect to the influence of the semi-conductive layer. It is demonstrated that the chosen cable design provides a solution for an unscreened flexible cable of a diameter similar to usual flexible cables of other categories. The solution is also appropriate for reduced channel length application based on smaller conductor size.
