An overview is done on the effects coming from the introduction in Europe of the Construction Product Regulation (CPR) to all the cables permanently installed in construction of buildings and civil works. The reaction to fire is not only evaluated on the traditional flame spread but also on the basis of the heat release. The standardization process is being almost concluded and the Notified bodies will be asked to issue the attestation of conformity based on seven new Euro-classes from July 2013. A repositioning and upgrading of the cable design through new developments is passing through the contribution of new materials and different solutions to satisfy the required performances.
