Feed costs have increased substantially in recent years driven by factors such as rising demand for cereals for the production of biofuel, increasing transport costs and speculation on future feed prices. In addition to these increases, other farm input costs are also rising, for example energy, labour and transport. As costs escalate, the economic value of improvements in feed conversion efficiency (FCE) has increased significantly. Controlling and preventing disease through application of enhancedbetter management practices, veterinary inputs and biosecurity to improve feed conversion efficiency has never been more important.
