A PCV2a based ORF2 subunit vaccine cross protects against challenge with a recent PCV2b strain

While PCV2b is the prevailing porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) genotype in the UK, all commercially available vaccines are based on genotype PCV2a. This fact raises discussions about the suitability of the current vaccines to protect against the circulating PCV2 strains.The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of an aqueous single-dose PCV2 subunit vaccine, containing baculovirus-expressed PCV2a based capsid protein, against a recent PCV2b strain, currently circulating in the UK.
