Swine influenza virus (SIV) is one of the three most problematic diseases of swine costing an estimated $3.23 (Haden) to $10.31 per pig (Donovan).SIV's negative impact stretches from uncomplicated infections to contributing to porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC). Breed-wean farms are commonly experiencing reinfections and multi-virus co-infections within different subpopulations, thus potentiating viral spread.
