Field results of a modified vaccination protocol with Pfizer s Fostera PRRS vaccine

The total cost of PRRS in the US has been estimated at $664 million annually while the annual loss in growing pigs was $361.8 million.1 This study also found over half of weaned pigs that were PRRS virus negative at placement were infected before theywere marketed in 2010. Recently, Pfizer developed a commercially available modified live virus (MLV) PRRS vaccine from an innovative cell line, which is aimed at helping producers minimize these losses. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Fostera PRRS in a field trial with a final outcome looking at pounds of pork sold at market and secondly ADG, FE, and mortality. The hypothesis was Foster PRRS would perform similarly to other commercially available PRRS MLV vaccination optionsin production parameters.
