THE INTEGRATION OF BIM AND GIS FOR INDOOR AND OUTDOOR COMBINED ROUTE PLANNING

There are a growing number of studies that focus on the integration of Building Information Model (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). As BIM has become an important geospatial data source for GIS applications, many studies adopt the BIM exchange standards: Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) to OGC CityGML for indoor-outdoor applications. This study develops a procedure to combine the geospatial models for BIM and GIS. The integrated building-scale and city-scale models are used for a route planning application. The proposed method is a coarse-to-fine route planning by a hybrid model which provides the detailed route from room to room through outdoor road networks. The test area is located in NCTU campus, Taiwan, and the dataset includes detailed building models from BIM/IFC, OGC CityGML LOD1 building models and GIS road networks. The experimental result shows the coarse-to-fine route planning can fulfill the route planning task and reduce the calculating time.
