Clinical Exotic Animal Applications for F10 Antiseptic Solution: A Novel Agent in the USA - A Recent Addition to the Food and Drug Administration's Minor Use and Minor Species index 900-007

This paper describes the clinical applications of an alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride (benzalkonium chloride) and poly (hexamethylene biguanide) hydrochloride topical solution in exotic animal practice. The product (F10 Antiseptic Solution, Health and Hygiene (Pty) Ltd) has been used in South Africa, Australia, the EU (including UK) and other parts of the world in exotic practice, over the past 15 years, for prevention of and control of lower respiratory infections in (excluding all patients bred for human consumption) avian patients, by fogging and nebulisation and of the upper tract by flushing and the aerosol environmental disinfection of premises (in particular where there is a risk of airborne infection). In these environmental applications the "sister" product is F10SC Veterinary Disinfectant which is approved and registered in the USA by the EPA.
