Evaluation of Pharmacokinetics of Meloxicam in the Rabbit after Single and Multiple Oral Doses

In companion animals, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDSs) such as meloxicam are commonly used for the treatment of pain. NSAIDs have both central and peripheral activity, and they effectively reduce pain and inflammation in musculoskeletaldisease and postoperative patients and can be used in conjunction with other analgesics (eg, opioids) to provide effective, multimodal analgesia.The purpose of this study was to determine the pharmacokinetics of meloxicam in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) after oral administration of 1 mg/kg as single and multiple doses, and to compare plasma concentrations with effective concentrations in otherspecies.
