OSRAM's LARP (laser activated remote phosphor) technology entered series production for the automotive market only one year ago.Auxiliary high beam functions in the headlamps were the first applications featuring LARP modules.Thanks to the ultra high luminance, which can only be generated by LARP modules, a range of up to 600m for the auxiliary beam function was achieved with this technology in series cars, thereby substantially improving road safety [1,2].In this paper we will discuss the current status, and future possible developments for LARP technology from the point of view of the light source, and we will show that applications beyond auxiliary high beam are already feasible or will become so in the next few years.We will present a demonstration headlamp with an ECE-compliant laser high beam made exclusively with LARP modules.As a next-generation application we will demonstrate a full LARP headlamp mockup in which low beam is also implemented with LARP modules.
