Twenty eight clones were selected and included in stage Ⅱ of selection. These clones with three standards were planted in the nursery farm of Vaidyanath SSK. Beed (M. S.) using Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two replications in October, 2010-11 and 2011-12 with an object to select the clones for low recovery zone to eliminate the genotypes x environment effect. The seedlings obtained from the fluff were transplanted and the selections were made from different seedling stages to pre-final varietal trial at this location. The study indicated that the biparental crosses involving Co 91010 and Co 8371; CoC 90063 and Co 1148, Co 98008 and Co 8370, Co 7915 PC, exhibited better range of variability for sugar, cane yield. The other yield contributing traits like tillering number, number of millable canes, cane diameter and single cane weight at harvest (12th month age) can also be considered as selection traits for improvement of cane productivity. One clone 173-032 (Co 91010 x Co 8371) recorded significantly higher cane and sugar yield (Cane yield: 148.61 t/ha, Sugar yield: 20.57 t/ha) than the standard Co 86032 (95.09 t/ha, Sugar yield: 12.28 t/ha), CoC 671 (113.97 t/ha, Sugar yield: 15.54 t/ha) and CoM 0265 (Sugar yield: 11.42 t/ha) in a pooled data over two plant crops. The clone was also exhibited the non-flowering / sparse flowering nature as compared to the clones / varieties under test. Such clone will be furiher evaluated in the similar conditions in Maharashtra to confirm the results obtained.
