Continuous vacuum pans provide significant advantages such as minimal supervision, benefits to steam economy, better exhaustion, crystal uniformity, etc. The most important criteria for a successful Continuous Vacuum Pans are production of even crystal size, elimination or avoidance of encrustation, lump formation and energy usage. This paper discusses several important design and operating criteria for maximizing the benefits of continuous vacuum pans to overall factory operation. Data are presented from operating continuous pans which includes Massecuite exhaustion, crystal growth and steam consumption.
