Producing sugar is getting increasing challenging:soaring raw material costs, high energy costs along with growing requirements for more consistent quality of the finished product. Automating the sugar plant is the solution to face the above challenges. Automating the sugar plant is not only vital but of paramount importance if one has to stay profitable. In this paper we have proposed how automation can be implemented at various stages of sugar process. Using Function Blocks and Sequential Control Modules as the main programming languages for the automation system a complete centralized control system is proposed for enhancing productivity of the sugar plant.
