WATER POLLUTION CONTROL MEASURES FOR A MODEL SUGAR PLANT TO ACHIEVE ZERO LIQUID DISCHARGE

摘要

Depleting water availability due to increase in water demand requires extensive water conservation scheme in sugar industry. Latest Pollution Control Boards norms allows maximum of 100 Litres of water per ton of cane as effluent for processing the sugar. Sugar Industry must adhere to the norms which are quite possible by adopting the practices listed in this paper. Best managed plants neither need to discharge any liquid from plant nor need any bore-well water by adoption of conservation measures and best management practices.
