The environmental pathogen Escherichia coli is one of the most dominant gram-negative bacteria causing bovine clinical mastitis (CM) in Denmark (Chehabi et al., 2019). This study aimed to investigate the genomic population and content of Danish bovineE. coli isolates, in regards to virulence factors and antibiotic resistance, hence performing a comparative analysis of the possible correlation between virulence and resistance among the bovine E. coli population. A second aim was to outline the phenotypic antibiotic resistance levels, to enable investigation of the relation between phenotypic and genotypic resistance.
