Solar resource assessment and forecasting: Recent achievements, bankability pressures, and current challenges

This presentation focuses on challenges, current developments, and research needs in solar resource assessment, considering the rapid development of mega solar projects, particularly those requiring optical concentration (CSP or CPV). In the case of CSP/CPV power plants, it has now been established that inaccuracies in solar resource data constitute the main source of uncertainty in their annual production, which justifies a more critical scrutiny of how solar resource assessments are performed.
