In thinly laminated reservoirs, the determination of oil saturation from conventional resistivity and porosity logs is very challenging and in most cases found not to be representative. When the thickness of the layer is less than the vertical resolution of the measured log, the reading is not the true value of the layer. To address these challenges, several methods have been developed. One of these methods is to enhance the vertical resolution of the standard logs using a very high resolution log derived from borehole images. The other method introduced in recent years, is the measurement of both vertical and horizontal resistivity of the formation with a triaxial induction device. The anisotropy derived from these two directional resistivity measurements can be caused by thin layers lamination, which is highlighted by the vertical resistivity measurement only.
