Application of the Radial Point Interpolation Method for Designing PBG Filters

In this work, the radial point interpolation method (RPIM) is applied to electromagnetic scattering problems. Hybrid photonic band gap (PBG) filters, based on circular and triangular metallic cylinders, are analyzed. Transmission and reflection coefficients are studied and high accuracy is obtained when the RPIM solutions are compared to analytical expressions available in literature. It is shown that when circular and triangular cylinders are used alternately, it is possible to shift the transmission band preserving the transmission levels, which may be beneficial for filter design.
