The adequate modeling of rough surfaces within Computational Electromagnetics (CEM) software is a non-trivial problem because in most practical cases a geometrically exact model of the rough surface is not available. Instead, a rough surface is commonly characterized by certain roughness parameters, such as the standard deviation of the height function. This gives rise to the application of a stochastic scattering model, which can be implemented in most high-frequency CEM approaches. This paper presents the combination of a stochastic scattering model with a Shooting-and-Bouncing-Rays (SBR) method and Physical Optics (PO). The results obtained in the simulations clearly show that roughness is a significant aspect in certain types of CEM problems.
