Char formation - significant FR activity for PIR. Trimer, phosphorus and halogens are condensed-phase active. Trimer leads to more char. Phosphorus leads to phosphorus-carbon char species. Halogen active in 300 to 450 °C to form "stabilized" species. Trimer character evident for FTIR. Proposed mechanism via urethane degradation back to MDI via halogen assisted path. In-situ trimer formation.
