Slurry phase Fischer-Tropsch reactors are attractive due to the ease in managing the reaction exotherm and relatively low capital investment. Depending on the source of synthesis gas, either iron-based or cobalt-based catalysts are chosen for slurry FTS. In either case, mitigating catalyst attrition is one of the top concerns in FTS plants, and designing attrition resistant FTS catalyst is the top priority for catalyst development scientists.
