Pleurotus sajor-caju (Fr.) singer was cultivated on different agro-wastes viz; soybean (Glycin max), wheat (Triticum aestivum), sorghum (Sorghum vulgare), mung bean (Vigna mungo), pigeon pea ( Cajanus cajan) and chick pea (Cicer arietinum). Chemical sterilization and poly bag technique were used for cultivation. The experiment was undertaken in Amravati district, Maharashtra state of India, to determine duration of spawn run, pin head and fruiting bodies formation and yield during three harvests. The yields and biological efficiency of P. sajor-caju on different agro-wastes were compared. The results revealed that the average period for three harvests required for different substrate ranged between 41 and 47 days. On an average, the yield of P. sajor-caju declined from first to third flush with all selected substrates. The variation in the yield under the influence of various substrates was highest in the third flush (CV=69. 62). The significant higher yields were recorded in wheat (BE 77.0 %) and soybean (BE 75.4 %) over the chick pea (BE 54. 1 %), sorghum (BE 53.7 %) and mung bean (BE 42. 6 %). The lowest yield was recorded in pigeon pea (BE 39.8 %). The t value indicates highly significant differences in the chemical composition. There was significant decrease in the content of organic matter, organic carbon and the C/N ratio, while the amount of nitrogen and crude protein was increased in the spent substrates over the fresh one.
