摘要

This article demonstrates how clients can, and do recover from mental illness to lead productive lives. Wellness Centers require a shift in treatment philosophy from a life-long dependence on treatment based on the Medical Model, to one based on the Holistic-Recovery Model, (a Shared Decision-Making approach). This new model calls for innovations in treatment under the Mental Health Services Act (Proposition 63). The goal in the Recovery Model is to transition clients who no longer need intensive services or traditional outpatient services, into the community. The author makes the case for the Recovery Model, and how professional mental health practitioners can transform to embracing a Shared Decision Making approach, that is client-centered with unconditional professional support and involvement.
