Single phase Ni_(1-x)TM_(x)O (TM velence Fe, Co; x velence 0, and 0.03) was prepared by a wet chemical route. XRD, TEM and SAED measurements were carried out to get the phase and microstructural information of chemically prepared samples. Raman spectroscopy results have shown enhancement of surface defects with insertion of foreign atoms in NiO matrix. Magnetic measurements have shown room temperature ferromagnetism in the pristine NiO and Fe-doped NiO. The Co-doped NiO sample showed antiferromagnetic behaviour from room temperature to 30 K, below which it becomes ferromagnetic.
