While phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) has been utilised for several decades, only in recent years has it been accepted as an inspection technique due to the ability to calibrate for a known flaw size and type. The application of full matrix capture (FMC) to real time inspection has recently become possible due to advances in parallel processing of data, but acceptance of the technique is still slow due to the inability to calibrate for a known flaw size and type. This paper presents a FMC calibration technique that addresses this deficiency.
