Ultrasonic testing is one of the five conventional NDT technologies, and also currently the most widely used and the most effective method of the corrosion thickness measurement. There are certain limitations and difficulties in the boiler, pipeline and other curved surface corrosion thickness measurement by using conventional piezoelectric sensors. In this paper a piezoelectric film (PVDF) is used to design a new sensor for corrosion thickness measurements on boilers, pipelines and other curved surface environments. The sensor exhibits excellent toughness, exceptional adaptability and flexibility. On the basis of feasibility of single PVDF ultrasonic sensor, a band consisting of an array of ultrasonic sensors for thickness measurement will be further developed, and also the integrity of the signal acquisition, processing and analysis platform should be designed, finally coming into being multi-point and real-time ultrasonic corrosion monitoring system in a certain region.
