Under Pressure: Synthesis and Crystal Structure of the Rare-Earth Metal(III) Hydroxide Oxidotungstates(VI) RE(OH)WO4 (RE = Dy and Ho)

Single crystals of the title compounds Dy(OH)[W04] and Ho(OH)[W04] occurred during a new approach to extend the series of rare-earth metal(III) chloride oxidotungstates(VI) with the formula RE3Cl_3[WO6] (RE = La-Nd, Sm-Tb)1-2 towards the smaller rare-earth metals (RE = Dy-Lu) by using a piston-cylinder apparatus3. The crystal structure of the first member of these rare-earth metal(III) hydroxide oxidotung-states(VI), Nd(OH)[WO4], was already published in 1969 by Klevtsova and Borisov,4 however, no more further results were announced in the meantime.
