Rice paddy is the representative place of methane emission. In particular, according to the irrigation of the rice paddies are a major concern is the observation of methane emission. In Asia, intermittent irrigation/drainage practice is applied to maximize rice production while minimizing water consumption and methane emission. In this study, using eddy covariance technique, we report methane fl ux measurement from a rice paddy whichis managed with such a practice. In addition, we discuss some diffi culties encountered in the application of eddy covariance method in conjunction with laser spectroscopy such as fi eld operation, data processing and gap-fi lling of the missing data.
