In the traumatology of Maxillofacial district, the complexity of the anatomy of the face, regard the three dimensions of the space, implies the need to restore, with extreme precision, the volumes and projections of the structure involved by the trauma. The use of surgical navigator, in this field, makes able to restore the symmetry of the face, putting in the planned positions the bony fragments with good aesthetic benefits. The aim of this study is presenting our experience in the use of the Stryker eNlite? surgical navigator (Freiburg-Germany), based on an active optical technology; with particular attention to the indications of the use and to the methods.Since the end of the 2009 we have navigated 11 cases of orbital and midfacial post-traumatic reconstruction, all of these following a virtual plan; and two of these combining the navigation with endoscopic minimally invasive surgical approach to the maxillary sinus or frontal sinus, for the reduction of fractures of orbital floor and frontal wall respectively.
