摘要

The use of permeable reactive barriers (PRB) has been drawing attention of researchers on groundwater contamination. Searching for a new versatile material adequate to reduce hexavalent chromium, this work proposes the application of a steel waste (Blast Furnace Dust-BFD) as reactive media to reduce and precipitate chromium in situ. Batch tests were developed and results showed that BFD can reduce up to 60% of hexavalent chromium on solution. Column tests using BFD as reactive media showed that this steel waste can be used for chromium remediation, however hydraulic conductivity may be a problem once the BFD granulometry creates preferable path ways on the system.
