Three experimental cells with distinct arrangement of household solid waste (HSW) and health care solid waste (HCSW) were monitored in order to characterize the physicochemical composition and evaluate the toxicity to experimental leachate generated in the landfill cells. The experimental C1 cell consisted 100% HSW; C2 cell, 100% HCSW and C3 cell simulated co-disposal comprising 98% of HSW and 2% of HCSW, in mass. The results of physicochemical parameters of the leachate showed that C1 cell are equal to C3 cell and results of C2 cell are smaller than C1 and C3, except the parameter turbidity. The ecotoxicity results showed that the leachate from C2 present no toxicity, unlike the observed in C1 and C3 cells. It can be concluded that there is no statistically significant difference among the mean values of the parameters of leachates from C1 and C3 cells, except for the ammonia nitrogen. Whereas cell C2 have the lowest values for almost all parameters and showed no toxicity, we can conclude that the introduction of health care waste is not responsible for differences between C1 and C3.
