CHARACTERISATION OF MIXED WASTE “TROMMEL” FINES FROM RDF PRODUCTION - ASSESSMENT OF SUITABILITY FOR REUSE AS LANDFILL COVER

Acceptance of the use of “trommel” fines as cover material required compliance with the regulatory criteria which were focused on chemical properties and demonstration that the biological and physical properties of the material made it suitable for use. Data was collected from daily samples over two periods (10 days and 5 days) to supplement historic chemical characterization data. The sampling program comprised composite sampling of daily production and testing to determine its chemical composition (not reported in this paper), and PSD, flammability (ASTM D4982) and aerobic respiration rate (modified ASTM D5975). These biological and physical parameters are reported and compared to relevant criteria.
