INTRODUCTION OF HUGE CLOSED SYSTEM DISPOSAL FACILITIES FOR INDUSTRIAL WASTE IN KAGOSHIMA, JAPAN

Industrial waste produced in the area of Kagoshima pref. was brought out to other prefectures and disposed there until recently. Then, the governor of Kagoshima pref. set up the public corporation of environmental service and has been tried to build the construction of the huge closed system disposal facilities for industrial waste during five and half years. Finally, the facilities were finished on December of 2014. Huge gravel pit is utilized for the facility construction usefully. Closed system disposal facility (called “CSDF”) is different from conventional opened-type landfill site (called “OPLS”). Namely, the new facility is covered with roof completely. Then, industrial waste inside is protected from rainfall. So, leachate volume is free from the effects of weather condition. After leachate was cleaned, its water is used for industrial waste cooling. New facility doesn’t produce negligible leachate water, and so it is more safety against environment than conventional one is.
