It has been reported that anaerobic digestion efficiency and process stability significantly depend on the operation conditions such as feeding frequency. Feeding less frequently may result in accumulation of volatile fatty acids, which may adversely affect the internal changes in the microbial community and deteriorate digestion efficiency. In order to investigate the influence of feeding frequency on the performance of anaerobic digestion, a series of laboratory scale anaerobic reactors were operated under mesophilic conditions at 35±1°C with glucose as substrate. Different feeding frequencies of twice a day (CSTR 1), once a day (CSTR 2) and every two days (CSTR 3) were applied under the identical organic loading rate (OLR) of 0.5 g-glucose/L_(Reactor)/day.
