摘要

Lithuanian municipal waste management system is still far from the majority of EU founding member countries in the field of waste recycling and energetic use: no more than 10 percent of total generated municipal solid waste (MSW) are processed by such methods. The development of waste-to-energy recycling by incineration is encountering stonewalling of population and some political forces. The motivation is an expected increase of emissions to ambient air, mainly of dioxins and heavy metals (HM). The promoters of environmental impact assessment documents make often the fatal mistake, that they do not indicate the mechanism and conditions for the formation of pollutants.
