ENVIRONMENTAL VALUATION FROM RECYCLING OF PACKAGING WASTE IN EUROPE

Environmental valuation emerges as an instrument for measuring environmental goods and services and the impacts of environmental degradation in order to obtain the direct and indirect costs and benefits resulting from the qualitative and quantitative changes of these goods and services. Regarding municipal solid waste (MSW) management, many studies have been carried out in order to support policy-makers in selecting the best strategies to safeguard sustainable development (i.e. to fulfill the economic, environmental and social objectives). To assess the different strategies and projects several methods are used, such as life cycle assessment (LCA) and cost-benefit analysis (CBA).
