Next to energy, water can be seen as the foundation for alivable world in the future. Therefore, we need watertreatment systems for desalination as well as for treatmentof brackish and industrial water. Within this work, ademonstration unit based on the humidificationdehumidification process is presented. The test seriesincludes measurements with pure water and brine invarious concentrations. The influence of the location offluid injection into the humidifier as well as the influenceof air injection will be discussed theoretically and based onthe experimental data. It can be shown that saturation of airstrongly depends on bubble size and that a combination ofhumidification in the bubble column and humidificationabove the fluid surface occurs. In a next step, thedemonstration unit is investigated for bilge water, amixture of water, heavy oil and sediments which occur inthe shipping industry and is so far burned in the cementindustry. The goal of our process is the separation andrecovery of the oil phase to use it for example as basematerial for recycling oil.
