Cr_2O_3 castables are mainly used as monolithic refractories for waste melting furnaces because of their excellent corrosion resistance. However, a changeover toward chrome-free materials is strongly needed because Cr_2O_3 may produce hexavalent chrome compounds that are harmful substances.~1 The main theme or the major focus of previous research on this topic is how to solve this problem by formulating a high corrosion resistance material that replaces chrome oxide.~2 In this paper research focused on the removable of obstructive components that lower the corrosion resistance in the matrix regions of refractories structure by means of non-cement compounding to facilitate the changeover toward chrome-free castables.
