The study area comprising the western part of the Fore-Sudetic Monocline is a most important exploration target in Poland. In this paper, we evaluate organic source facies and the results of basin modelling in order to improve understanding of the regional petroleum system. Geochemical and petrographic analyses of 710 rock samples were used in this study. Our investigations showed that the samples in whole study area represent active source rocks. Organic carbon contents is low - below 0.5%, but locally in reach up to 10 % TOC. The highest organic carbon is noted in mudstones and boundstones facies. The carbonates source rocks consist principally of liptinite macerals. A large majority of the Fore-Sudetic Monocline area source rocks reached main phase of "oil window". Numerical modelling indicates that the hydrocarbon generation and expulsion in the Fore-Sudetic Monocline commenced between the Triassic and the early Cretaceous time, with the main phase of generation in the early Jurassic. 2-D modelling showed that migration of hydrocarbons took place from the early Triassic to the Cretaceous periods, with the main phase in the Jurassic, to nearly cease during inversion.
