With the aim to support targeted sampling the connection between soil electrical conductivity (EC) and base nutrient levels (pH, P, K, and Mg) was examined on a farm in Saxony-Anhalt at 13 fields over an area of 500 hectares. From the 13 potential combinations 8 for pH, 3 for P, 6 for K and 6 for Mg were significant at the 0.05 level. The relationships between the soil electrical conductivity and the base nutrients were generally linear. The regression analysis identified that the standard errors of the estimates were nearly always higher as a tolerable error. From this result targeted sampling which is based on the soil electrical conductivity cannot be recommended.
